Concrete Blocks

Concrete Blocks are an extremely versatile Building Material and come in a variety of grades and densities ranging from 3.6kn to 10kn. Concrete Blocks, or Breeze Blocks as they are commonly referred to can be used for a variety of applications below a DPC (Damp Proof Course) as an infill for beam and block flooring and above ground for constructing both internal and external walls and offer excellent thermal, acoustic and load bearing qualities. Aswell as being lightweight and thus easy to handle, concrete blocks provide high resistance to fire, sulphate attack, frost and vapour penetration. Concrete Blocks can be used in Foundations, Internal & External Cavity Walls, Solid Walls, Party Walls, Partitions, Multi Storey Buildings, Beam and Block Floors and Flanking Walls.

Available in a standard block size of 440mm x 215mm, concrete blocks are available in thicknesses of  75mm, 100mm, 140mm and 215mm, or trench blocks that are available up to 300mm thick.

High Thermal Resistance Concrete Blocks are also available – Celcon Solar Blocks or Thermalite Turbo Blocks are just two of the market leading blocks for providing enhanced thermal insulation. Providing a superior level of thermal conductivity, Solar Blocks or Turbo Blocks are also loadbearing and can be used above or below the DPC. Similarly to Standard Concrete Blocks they are suitable for use in internal and external cavity walls, solid walls, party walls, partitions, and flanking walls.

Trench Blocks or Foundation Blocks are specifically designed for use below the DPC. With heat loss being most significant at the perimeter of ground floors, trench blocks can greatly reduce this (by up to 25%). This coupled with their ability to support most flooring solutions and structural walls, make foundation blocks an extremely cost efficient and suitable building material. The nature of foundation blocks also allow trenches to be backfilled as soon as installation is complete rather than having to wait for the concrete to go off, thus enabling buildings to go up extremely quickly. Foundation blocks are also highly resistant to the freeze-thaw actions present below the DPC and as a general guide one Foundation Block will replace 2 100mm Standard Concrete Blocks. They are also far easier to handle on site since they way approximately one third of the equivalent dense aggregate block.

Once you have decided on the type of Concrete Blocks you require, along with any associated Building Sand and Cement  you can buy them online at www.buildingmaterials.co.uk and have it delivered anywhere in the United Kingdom. We offer a standard delivery timescale of 2-3 days nationwide for these type of products.
