Fermacell

Fermacell is a multi-purpose, high performance building board, that when installed combines the properties of solid brickwork with the speed and flexibility of conventional plasterboard techniques.
Due to the changes in design and on going pressure from building regulations, the type of materials used must have technically superior properties as well as a quick and economical solution for installation. Fermacell is renowned for having all of these properties.

Most drylining projects have to use a variety of different plasterboards to ensure all the properties needed for the project are met. For example, a hotel bathroom will need acoustic insulation, moisture resistance and fire protection, where as, Hospitals will add impact resistance and flexibility in accepting wall mounted fittings to this. So a variety of different materials have to be used to ensure every one of those properties are met.

Fermacell offers a single solution to this problem as the unique nature of the board offers a drylining solution that combines high levels of fire resistance, acoustic insulation and impact strength with inherent moisture resistance and exceptional screw holding ability.

It is produced using an extraordinary combination of ordinary materials consisting of recycled gypsum, recycled cellulose fibres and recycled water, combined to form a mass which is then formed into a dense sheet material. The manufacturing technique and the product has won awards for its economical and green properties as every material used is fully recyclable ensuring no waste is produced.

From commercial projects through to DIY, Fermacell can be extremely useful. Fermacell requires minimal additional work prior to painting and decorating. Wallpapers and tiles can be applied direct to the board, and plaster smooth finishes, which are ready to paint in about 45 minutes, can also be applied to the board. The end result is a finished partition that combines the properties associated with solid masonry with the flexibility of drywall, in a construction that is often thinner, quicker and cheaper to install than both. Using a multipurpose board that eliminates unnecessary wet trades makes practical, technical and commercial sense. In general domestic applications and where the relative humidity does not exceed 80% or where protection from water is provided by tiles, regular Fermacell Gypsum Fibreboards can be used in partitions and linings. For shower and wet areas in commercial and domestic applications, Fermacell Powerpanel H2O board provides an impervious to water solution. H2O boards can also be used for semi exposed external applications such as soffits.

As well as standard wall applications, Fermacell can also be used in flooring and ceiling systems:

The flooring systems offer a dry screed system solution which provides impact acoustic performance for refurbishment as well as new build and timber frame. The range of systems we produce not only increase sound insulation but also a dry screed solution to overlay underfloor heating and levelling solutions to uneven floors.

The ceiling systems provide superior acoustic and fire performance to timber and concrete ceilings by using either a resilient bar or a suspended ceiling system, decreasing the airborne acoustic transmission.

The use of Fermacell gypsum fibreboards alleviates the majority of the fitting and finishing problems associated with traditional dry lining methods.
The screw retention capabilities of Fermacell allow most fixtures to be fitted directly to the board.
