Fire Curtains

Fire Curtains are a thin fabric smoke and fire barrier used for compartmentation fire protection. Supplied in various size rolls, fire curtains provide cost effective, lightweight smoke and fire barriers for compartmentation of voids and above fire rated partitions to maintain fire rating. Fire Curtains are designed to delay the spread of fire and smoke through ceilings and over partitions.

Fire Curtain is manufactured from a lightweight woven glass cloth which is coated to prevent the migration of fibre between areas – this makes it ideal for fire stopping in food processing and pharmaceutical factories, superstores and computer centres where dust is particularly undesirable. One of the largest manufacturers of such products are TBA Textiles who manufacture a range, Firefly Fire Curtains.

All Firefly Fire Curtains are tested in accordance with BS476 Parts 20/22 – three metre square test; BS476 Part 6 – fire propagation test; BS476 Part 7- surface spread of flame test and BS5438 & 6249 – A Class rating for flammability. Copies of certification are available on request. Firefly Phoenix Fire Curtains are extremely thin and lightweight (only 0.3mm thick and 440g/m2) provide 30 to 110 minutes integrity only and do not provide insulation. In other words they will stop the spread of flame but not insulate against the transfer of heat. Firefly also offer a number of solutions that provide fire insulation aswell as fire integrity – Firefly Vulcan, Firefly Plus30, Firefly Plus60 and Firefly Titan. These provide up to 60 minutes integrity and 60 minutes insulation. Due to their very nature they are much thicker  and heavier than the standard Pheonix Fire Curtain – up to 15mm thick and 3.9kg/m2.

Fire Curtains are easy to install using a light gauge steel framework and can be used to extend a firewall where it is unpractical to use blockwork. Penetrations through the fire barrier can be managed using the firefly collaring system which insures the integrity of the fire and smoke barrier is maintained.
