Masterboard Fire Protection boards, due to their limited combustibility and Class 1 rating with regards surface spread of flame, have a number of applications where both fire protection and durability are required. These include fire rated timber and metal stud partitions and ceilings;  swimming pool ceilings; wall and roof linings; soffit, porch and canopy linings; service ducts and pipe covers; boiler cupboard and airing cupboard linings; timber door upgrades.

All calcium silicate boards including Masterboard, have a high suction and thus it can be difficult to plaster. If a plaster finish is required, a sealer coat must first be applied. This should be a diluted PVA or primer coat made up of 5 parts water, 1 part PVA. A bonding coat of PVA should then be applied made up of 3 parts PVA and 1 part water, and then finally a 5mm thick skim coat of plaster should be applied while the bonding coat is still wet and sticky. If paint decoration, wallpapering or tiling to the Masterboard building boards is required, again a primer coat should first be applied to ensure the effective application of the required decorative finish.
