Metal Ceilings

Metal Ceilings Systems provide an aesthetically pleasing suspended ceiling system. Often used in offices, supermarkets and hospitals they provide a secure, easily maintained and durable method of upgrading a soffit or existing ceiling. Made from Steel, Metal Ceiling Tiles are powder coated in white as a standard, but are also available in any RAL colour. They can be plain without perforations, or perforated in a number of different patterns. Not only do the perforations add to the aesthetic quality of the tile, when used in conjunction with an acoustic insulation ceiling pad, they can also improve their acoustic performance and fire rating. There are a number of different manufacturers of Metal Ceiling Products in the United Kingdom – these include Armstrong, SAS, Burgess, CEP, AMF, OWA and Dampa.

Metal Ceiling Tiles come in a variety of finishes, sizes and edge details and consequently can range from £4.00 per m2 to in excess of £20.00 per m2. Metal Ceiling Tiles come in a number of edge details. Square Edge, 24mm Tegular and 15mm Tegular (Microlook) sit on either 24mm or 15mm exposed grid and either sit flush on the grid (square edge) or drop down below the grid (tegular) to create a channel feature running down between the tiles. Metal Ceiling Tiles are also available in a concealed edge detail which effectively hides the grid that is suspending them to give the impression of a seamless ceiling. This is commonly known as a spring tee or a clip in system. Here the metal tiles push up into a sprung metal grid system consisting of spring tee bars, primary support channel, galvanised angle hangers and channel trim. There are also a number of spring tee connectors, primary channel connectors, and universal brackets which clip and connect the spring tee grid work together. The tiles are then clipped into the spring tee grid. Not only does this make the ceiling relatively secure (you need a special tool to remove the tiles – tile extractor), it also has the effect of hiding the grid, thus making it an aesthetically pleasing finish. At the perimeter a Channel Trim, or shadowline channel trim where there is a transition to another type of ceiling are used. Here cut metal tiles are wedged into the channel trim using a perimeter wedge.
