Plasterboard

Plasterboard is a gypsum based sheet building material used in both new build and refurbishment projects to build new non load bearing internal partition walls and linings, or improve existing wall surfaces which are damaged and uneven.

The 3 main Plasterboard Suppliers  in the United Kingdom are British Gypsum, Knauf and Lafarge. British Gypsum are based in East Leake, Knauf are based in Sittingbourne, and Lafarge are based in Bristol. All 3 plasterboard manufacturers produce a range of plasterboards to suit various applications and to this end plasterboard prices can range from circa £1.45 per m2 for standard wallboard  to in excess of £10.00 per m2 for the highest performing insulated plasterboard sheet.

The different types of plasterboard that are manufactured include Standard Wallboard, Vapour Barrier Plasterboard, Moisture Resistant Plasterboard, Fire Resistant Plasterboard, Sound Resistant Plasterboard, Impact Resistant Plasterboard, Plank Plasterboard and a range of Insulated Plasterboards consisting of Standard Plasterboard bonded to various thicknesses of either Expanded Polystyrene Sheet, Extruded Polystyrene Sheet or Phenolic Insulation Boards.

Depending on the type of plasterboard used, the fire resistance, sound insulation, moisture resistance, thermal performance or aesthetic appearance of the wall can be improved. Once you have decided which type of plasterboard you require you can buy your plasterboard online at www.buildingmaterials.co.uk and have it delivered anywhere in the United Kingdom. We offer a standard delivery timescale of 2-3 days nationwide for these type of products.

Plasterboard can be fixed direct to existing masonry with a combination of drywall adhesive dabs and specialist plasterboard fixings or fixed to a metal stud or timber framework to create the required width of wall. Plasterboard can also be used to create false ceilings and again can be fixed direct to existing substrates or to specialist metal stud furrings or timber frameworks.

Drylined Plasterboard can also be used in conjunction with various types of rockwool, glass fibre or polyurethane  insulation to further upgrade the performance of the drywall construction and can then be tape and jointed,  plastered or primed prior to decoration with emulsion paint or wallpaper to complete your plasterboard wall.
