Choosing OSB over Plywood
A common question is why buy OSB boards as opposed to Plywood. Below is some of the advantages.
Credentials
OSB is certified and guaranteed – every British Isles and Irish panel carries credentials (CE, BBA and BSN) which some customers find reassuring.
Environment
OSB itself is made from home grown, sustainably managed sources. Every panel you purchase that has been produced in the UK or Ireland meets the strict code set down by the FSC so you have a 100% guarantee that rain forests have not been raided or clear felled.
Availabilty
OSB due to the common nature and demand for the product is now far easier than ever to get hold of.
Finally Cost
This being a strong reason. Per square metre OSB boards are cheaper always. Panel for panel therefore using OSB instead of ply will cost less.

OSB And The Environmental Impact
At current there is questions over the environmental impact that OSB has. It allows manufacturers to use tree species such as aspen or poplar as standard veneer plywood or lumber. The production method uses almost all the wood of the harvested trees, and small, young trees and faster growing species can be used in the long run.
Due to the type of resins used in wood based structural use panels like OSB, they emit very low levels of formaldehyde. The emission levels have been found to be not more than 10% of the criteria of key national standards
