Tapes & Rules

Tapes & Rules

Tapes and rules are used to measure size or distance, helping a variety of DIY projects go to plan.

Tapes

A tape (often called a tape measure and not to be confused with sticky tape) consists of a bendable long strip (usually made of metal) and a small protective plastic case. Marked off with measurements along its length, the tool has a spring return that allows the tape to be put back into its case. Because of its portability and ability to measure around corners due to being bendable, a pocket tape measure is a hugely popular measuring tool.

Rules

Meanwhile, a rule is a rigid measurement stick typically made of materials like steel or wood. Most are foldable, giving them greater flexibility than ever before. And although tape measures are often favoured these days, rules do have certain advantages. For instance, it's easier to hold them against a flat object considering they don't bend, meaning they can also offer more accurate measurements.

Here at Building Materials, our range of tapes and rules certainly measures up. We stock some of the best tape measures and rules around from the world's most respected brands, including the likes of Stanley, Komelon and Hultafors.
