Aggregates

Aggregate is a term used to describe grained particulate materials used in construction. Aggregate materials make up to 80% of composite materials such as concrete, with the aggregate adding compressive strength to these materials. They also improve durability and the concrete’s ability to receive finishes.

Common types of aggregates include:

  • Gravel
  • Sand
  • Ballast
  • Mortar
  • Sharp sand
  • Shingle
  • Building sand

High quality aggregates are strong, hard and clean, free from chemicals and other materials that could cause deterioration of composite materials.

Coarse aggregates are particulates greater than 4.75mm in diameter while fine aggregates are usually less than this. In most structural applications, aggregates can be up to 40mm in size, while for mass concreting, the size can be significantly larger.

We provide a wide range of versatile and decorative aggregates, including MOT Type 1 aggregate, which is used as a sub-base for paths and driveways.

Contact us today to discuss how we can supply you with both trade packs and bulk packs of our adaptable aggregates. We offer discounts on large quantity orders, and are happy to help calculate the quantities that would be suitable for your project.
