Bricks are one of the world’s oldest building materials, for their sustainable production, durability, and their versatility. Ibstock Brick produces a range of facing and engineering bricks, offering a selection of looks and colours. In this guide from Building Materials Nationwide, a supplier of quality bricks and blocks (including Ibstock products), we’ll cover some of the essentials of Ibstock bricks; the benefits they offer, the types available, and their prices.

Why We Choose Ibstock Bricks

Ibstock is one of the most popular and trusted brick producers in the UK, offering several key benefits:

  1. Experience: Ibstock has a rich history dating back as far as the early 1800s, making it one of the oldest in the field of brick production and construction.
  2. Quality: With so much time in the industry, Ibstock has mastered its concoction of clay, concrete, and aggregates and consistently produces bricks that are high strength, durable, and attractive.
  3. Sustainability: Prioritising environmental friendliness within building products is a priority of both construction companies and customers. Ibstock Brick has dedicated themselves to planet-friendly production and business practice; in 2021 alone they reduced their carbon emissions by 17%, mains water consumption by 8%, and reduced plastic packaging waste by 200 tonnes.

Types of Ibstock Bricks

Our Ibstock bricks come in a multitude of different styles and colours. Whether you need traditional rustic red or a variety of shades and hues, including heather and Ivanhoe cream, you can trust Ibstock bricks to match your vision and do so reliably.

To help you better understand the different types of Ibstock bricks we have for sale, we have broken down the two main categories below.

Ibstock Engineering Bricks

Ibstock engineering bricks are best suited to structural purposes, as opposed to decorative ones. At Building Materials Nationwide we stock both Class A and B engineering bricks, but our Ibstock range is only available in Class B – the type that is most commonly used. Engineering Ibstock bricks boast high strength, durability, and water absorption, making them a perfect choice for retaining walls and all types of groundwork.

Ibstock Facing Bricks

Facing bricks, also known as face bricks, remain the most commonly used brick type in Britain. Unlike engineering bricks and their practical purpose, facing bricks also offer a great visual look. Ibstock facing bricks come in a wide variety of gorgeous colours and styles, making them the perfect choice for any building looking for a strong aesthetic.

That does not mean to say that Ibstock facing bricks lack the strength and durability that engineering bricks have – in fact, Ibstock facing bricks have been specifically designed to withstand the elements, due to their outward-facing nature, by harnessing lower density and higher water absorption. Ibstock facing bricks are a sturdy and reliable building material that balances high strength with high visual appeal.

Our Ibstock facing bricks can be broken down into 2 further types – stock and wire-cut. Ibstock stock bricks, also known as stud bricks, are made using a machine that rolls clay into sand before the mix reaches a mould, which achieves high strength. Ibstock wire-cut bricks, also known as extruded bricks, are instead machine-cut into long, thin shapes that are then cut to specific and varying lengths.
