19th Dec 2022 -

For many of us, this year will be the first Covid-free Christmas. It’s a time to overindulge, revel in the festivities and make precious memories with our loved ones to make up for the last two years.

But with the crushing cost of living crisis and increasing energy bills dominating the headlines, not everyone is as fortunate. Particularly this year, it’s important that we don’t forget about those who need a helping hand.

That’s why at Building Materials Nationwide, we wanted to do our bit and make a difference to those struggling with the financial pressures of Christmas. We rallied around collecting lots of non-perusable food for two of the local food banks: ReadiFood in Reading and Woodley Food Bank.

A small group of us then headed to Costco to buy all the essentials the food banks needed, such as nappies, pet food, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and lots and lots of food.

Both ReadiFood and Woodley Food Bank we so incredibly grateful for the donations. “I wanted to say a huge thank you from the Woodley Food Bank for the amazing donation from Building Materials Nationwide this afternoon,” said Richard Davies, Woodley Food Bank Coordinator.

“It’s a substantial donation and is especially helpful for us at this time of year when we see the demand for our services increase. Sadly, we have more people than ever struggling with the increased costs of energy and food, so this really makes a difference.”
